Larry Joe Bird is an American former NBA player, coach and Executive. He was nicknamed “Larry Legend” and regarded as the greatest Basketball player by some people.
Larry was born on December 7, 1956, to poor parents, his mother worked two jobs to support her family. Larry has often said being a poor child motivated him to work very hard.
Larry’s father committed suicide when he was in high school so Larry played basketball to numb the pain.
Larry Bird was selected by the Boston Celtics, he was the sixth overall pick in the 1978 NBA draft. He signed a $3.8 million five years contract with the Celtics. Bird averaged 21 points, he was selected Rookie of the Year.
By 1985, Bird had won three consecutive Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and the Boston Celtics were ranked the greatest team.

In 1992, Bird alongside Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson won the gold medal for the United States in the 1992 Olympics at Barcelona.
In 1997, Larry accepted the job of Coach for the Indiana Pacers and was named NBA Coach of the year in the 1997 – 1998 season. At the 2019 NBA Awards, Bird received the NBA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Larry Bird sustained a few injuries as a player but none was life-threatening. In 1995, Bird was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation but has been able to manage this with proper diet, medication and exercise.
Bird is alive and healthy at 65 years.
